Barrow House: Your Best Hideaway Venue

IMG_8359

Another pitstop on my tour of Kerry (Ireland’s premier wedding destination) to places where I would love to create a ceremony, I was delighted take the short drive on the Fenit road, to Barrow House around ten miles from Tralee town. This stunningly located manor house, right on the shores of Tralee Bay, recently won Georgina Campbell Best Hideaway of the Year 2021!

You can see Barrow House for a while in the distance, as you hug the coastline on the road out to Tralee Golf Club. The house is nestled in a curve in the bay, at the end of a private drive descending to the house and it’s exclusive bay front location.

A large Georgian Manor House, originally built in 1715, the house has had a rich history, and a few extensions and refurbishments over the years. Now fully and lovingly restored, it is one of the most beautiful places to stay in Tralee and hold a ceremony. No need for decoration — your backdrop is the Wild Atlantic Way.

Recently taken over by Darragh McDonogh, and refurbished to a high standard, this is a dream wedding venue. Step inside the house, and it's as though you're leafing through Interiors magazine. This is movie set territory - after all, it does have it's own cinema room. Darragh's eye for style and her investment in bespoke furniture and decoration, means not only is this pared back East Coast vibe extended throughout, but it also results in an incredibly impressive place to stay. If you can take your eyes off Darragh’s statement piece antiques and attention to detail, you will enjoy a sea view from every room.

Barrow House is popular with not only with couples in Ireland, but also abroad (particularly the US) who are looking for an intimate celebration. The house can be hired exclusively, with plenty of additional accommodation can be found in nearby Tralee if required.

Weather permitting, the deal breaker is the pier that extends out towards the water. Usually set for tea and lounging, it is converted into the most scenic aisle and wedding ceremony spot you can imagine. I would love to hold a ceremony here, the only problem being I would have my back to the view!

A wonderfully stunning and impeccably restored venue, well-deserved of their sought-after Georgina Campbell Best Hideaway accolade.
